Beginning of the end!

Posted by tejbir on October 30, 2006

More than one end start coming my way today and I may reach the cul-de-sac of all of them in next 3 or 4 months and then I will take a turn. Some of such ends are:

  1. Office – Put in my study leave application today which in all likelihood will be rejected and will set me free to put in my papers eventually;
  2. Work – A year long break from work and boss and deadlines and files and office politics;
  3. Mumbai – that’s sad but unavoidable;
  4. Blogging? Don’t know! But will resist.

Come April and I will step into my dream institute – IIM Ahmedabad for its one year management program (PGPX). I have absolutely no idea as to where will this turn lead me to.

But the fact is I never thought I will feel so heavy after tendering my sort of resignation from office – I loved the office, I loved the furniture, I loved the paintings on the wall, I loved the phone on my table, I loved my PC (even though it acts weird every Saturday-shanidev is what I call it), and above all I realized today that my boss is indeed a good fella!

I firmly believe that life and movement are synonyms. But I had no inkling that matching the two could be this tough. Change is indeed constant but human is too transfixed with constancy to embrace any change.

Want to stay alone today.

a sunday i’d do without

Posted by tejbir on October 29, 2006

same old matter and same old mood. to give thoughts a freewalk lets hold the sunday TOI.

Shabana seems to have taken some serious “panga” with the fiefs of religion. Instead of congratulating her on her winning the Gandhi Peace prize which in effect will help encourage women in the community, they are trying to portray her negatively.

A good coverage of infiltration into the armed forces, which was always very real but either ignored or delibrately hidden to avoid embarassment. If only the then chiefs had indeed acted in the good of the nation by keeping long term prospects of nation above personal short term prospects.

A marvellous story of women empowerment and that too not a reel but a real one. Sex workers of infamous Sonagacchi area in Kolkata, after being denied bank accounts have started their own co-operative with an annual turnover of Rs.8 crores. Named Usha Co-operative Society, it functions from seven districts (another great feat!) and has over 8,000 members. The co-operative helps members with timely loans at interest rates much lower than local moneylender who exploited these women. But I am sure no where in the world will we find a Board of Directors all of whom have their main vocation as prostitution!

Pak PM Shaukat Aziz seems to be keen on disrupting the peace progress between India and Pakistan by voicing his & his country’s support to Kashmiris. But I think it is failure of Indian government that it is not able to convince kashmiris as being part of India.

With Ban-Ki-Moon revealing that it was China’s strong and silent support that saw him through with the Secy Gen post of the UN, India needs to watch out if it want a permanent seat in the Security Council. China is a big factor India has to tackle and China may not be comfortable with its neighbour too as a permanent member.

Carly Fiorina is out with a book “Tough Choices” and it explains her silence over a long time after her ouster from the HP chair.

Its heartening to know that “Dilbert” cartoonist Scot Adams suffers from Spasmodic Dysphonia and is loosing his speech. May God bless him, one who brings us a tickle every morning.

The wait has been fortunately cut short. And that too for good!

I made it to the IIM-A for the PGPX program. But a lot more calculations commence on this good news. Anyway a lot of relief, happiness and gratitude is what fills me to the brim.

Thanks everyone!!!
